On the occasion of the workshop "net.art generator – generating art & discourse" that took place in December 2017 at ZKM (Zentrum für Kunst und Medien Karlsruhe) this discussion took place at HfG (Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe). The participants take the temporary dysfunctionality of the net.art generator as a starting point to discuss issues around code and infrastructure as as often invisible dependencies. Specifically, the discussion addresses interfaces (APIs) to search engines, the advantages of open source, and issues of preservation of digital and software-based artworks.
